The Reflection Remembered

The mirror never lied.

It only opened its mouth

when mine forgot how to scream.

Each morning

it returned another version of me

with someone else's apologies

stitched behind my teeth.

One day I smiled

and watched the reflection spit out

the corpse of the girl

who had been swallowing herself

just to keep everyone else alive.
